Specializing in American Art and the History of Photography, Paul Sternberger’s publications include Between Amateur and Aesthete: The Legitimization of Photography in America, 1880-1900 (The University of New Mexico Press, 2001) and articles in journals such as American Art and the Journal of the History of Collections. Collaborating with Rutgers-Newark colleague Ned Drew he recently published By Its Cover: Modern American Book Cover Design (Princeton Architectural Press, 2005). His current research focuses on contemporary photography and video from India.
